Description Round bowl with short pedestal ring on underside and rounded, flaring walls; Interior and exterior are coated with a white glaze; Design on exterior consists of a wide encircling band that shows a lotus flower and buds painted in blue with black outlines and repeated three times, all on white background; Band is framed below by narrow blue line outlined in black, and above by slightly wider band that is divided into 8 sections that are alternately filled with hachured triangles or pairs of blue eyes; Interior of bowl is decorated with a stylized blue floral motif in center on white background; Wide blue band with black diagonal crosshatching encircles interior just below rim.

Description Large, deep vessel carved out of single piece of dark, hollowed out wood; Slightly bean-shaped, with approximately half of the top open; Bottom of bowl is rounded, without a flattened portion on which to stand; Large link metal chain by which to hang the bowl attached at either end of top opening; Remainder of top portion, and body of bowl, decorated with very thin pieces of white bone inlaid in a floral or leaf motif and Arabic writing, with row of triangles fitted together (downward pointing triangles next to upward pointing); Writing on one side reads “Ya ghafoor. Ya raheem.” (“The forgiver. The merciful.”); Writing on the other side reads “Tawakkaltu Ala-Allah.” (“I trust in Allah.”); Possibly used as an incense holder.
