Description Pitcher with globular lower body on short footed base, low shoulder, and tall narrow straight neck with straight rim; Single flattened coil handle is attached just below rim, then extends out and slightly upward before dropping straight to shoulder; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth, and with exception of underbody and base, entire vessel is glazed turquoise blue, then over-painted in black; Designs are divided into three encircling panels, the first of which is on the underbody and shows a single wide line just below the shoulder with heavy parallel lines hanging pendant from it and extending just to the top of the pedestal base; Second panel is very wide, extending from the shoulder up to the mid-level height of the neck, and is divided into 4 narrow panels filled with identical design (possibly a script), alternating with 4 wider panels that are filled with an identical geometric motif; Third panel encircles the upper portion of the neck and again repeats what could be a script; Single solid line extends down outside length of handle.

Description Short round pitcher with short footed base and lower sides that flare outward initially, then abruptly rise vertically and then turn inward to form a high, broad shoulder, and finally rise vertically again to form a narrow diameter neck with slightly everted rim and rounded lip; One side of the neck is pinched outward to form a spout; Single flattened handle is attached to upper side of neck just below rim and extends outward and then curves downward vertically to the second point of attachment on the shoulder; Sides on lower body of pitcher are pressed inward, so the finished vessel is actually 8-sided, and each side is decorated in dark brown with negative (white) image of stacked “8” or intertwined “S” shapes; Band along shoulder contains continuous line of interlocking geometric motifs. [From 1983 appraisal by Professor Pinder-Wilson, UC Berkeley: "Jug (imitating metal form); made in a mold/ Buff gray clay/ Tall neck, horizontal shoulder above eight-sided body/ Foot ring/ Decoration reserved in luster ground, chestnut luster; opaque glaze/ Handle from top of neck to shoulder, entirely restored."]
