Description Salt spoon with short curved handle with slightly expanded proximal end; Handle is stamped with 5 parallel diagonal lines and a crescent shape; Asymmetrical bowl of spoon has 5 small holes arranged in L-shaped pattern and is partially enclosed on its distal end; Underside of handle is stamped "Sterling" with initials "KB" (Kenneth Begay) and a hogan (hallmark for White Hogan Shop, Scottsdale, AZ). Note: The White Hogan Shop used a casting technique to replicate a number of Kenneth Begay-designed pieces, including earrings, cuff links, pendants, salt spoons, and bracelets. The cast bracelets were often sold in pairs. Cast pieces were marked only with the designer’s initials and the White Hogan shop mark, whereas handmade pieces were also stamped, “Hand Made.”

Attributed in November 1978 by Eleanor Begay (Kenneth Begay’s wife) as “probably her husband’s work.”

Description Bottle opener with commercial stainless steel circular opener attached to handmade, rectangular handle that expands in girth toward proximal end; Series of 3 parallel lines encircles handle near distal end and series of 4 lines encircles handle near proximal end; Opener is unsigned. Kay Begay Rogers (April 2015) stated that her father hallmarked every piece he made, unless he was specifically told not to do so. As this piece is not hallmarked, but could have been on its end, she thought it more likely that this was made by one of the bench smiths at the White Hogan Shop, rather than by her father.
