Desideria Montoya Sanchez was the younger sister of Maria Martinez and the cousin of Isabel Montoya Atencio. Works by both of these women and their families is also represented in the CAS collection.

Description Round bowl with flat base, rounded sides, and slightly inward curving rim; Single bail handle is attached at two points on the rim and arches high over the bowl's wide mouth; Interior is minimally scraped; Exterior and handle are scraped very smooth, coated with a slip, and highly burnished, except for base; Design band around upper sides of bowl is painted in matte black slip and consists of 6 contiguous triangles, each with three short parallel horizontal lines extending out from side; Band is bordered below by single framing line; Bowl is reduction fired to black-on-black color and is unsigned.

Description A: Oval bowl with flat base and vertical sides; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and coated with a slip, and exterior is highly burnished; Design band on exterior sides is painted in matte black slip and includes paired stack of 3 triangles each on each long side, 4 parallel vertical lines at each short end, and upper and lower framing lines around rim and base; Possible incised signature on base is completely illegible; B: Flat oval lid with single loop handle in center; Exterior is scraped smooth, coated with a slip and highly burnished; Interior appears to have had lip but is now ground smooth; Group of 3 contiguous elongated triangles at ends of lid and semicircle with pendant dots on either side of handle are painted in matte black slip; Signature “Florence” is very, very lightly incised on base, but very difficult to read. Florence Aguilar Naranjo is the daughter of Rosalie Simbola Aguilar and Joe Aguilar [José Angeles Aguilar] and the sister of Joe Aguilar (Jose Vincente Aguilar) and Alfred Aguilar, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS collection.
