Description Possible headband woven entirely in plain twining technique; Warp material is unidentified split plant stem and primary weft material is unidentified split plant root; Both edges of band incorporate a supplemental warp rod that is perpendicular to the other warps and each primary warp rod make one complete back and forth pass between the two edges, with both ends of the warp rod being bent over the same supplementary warp rod and incorporated into the first (or last?) row of twining; Designs are woven in half-twist overlay technique, using a dyed black plant fiber as the secondary weft fiber; Design consists of a rectilinear open "S" motif repeated 5 times along 2/3 of the band, with the remaining 1/3 of the space (probably intended as the back of the band) left undecorated; NOTE: Both the materials and the weaving technique of this piece are atypical of any tribal group from the USA or Canada -- possibly South American.
