Effigy basket in the form of small cylindrical water well with attached water bucket and a butter churn (?), all mounted on a flat, oval base and all woven in an open split-stitch coiled technique over a bundle foundation; Warp material is pine needles and weft material is undyed raffia grass leaves; Small cloth female doll dressed in yellow leather dress and moccasins and red cloth cape and belt is standing by the butter churn grasping the upright pole; Doll's facial features and hair are made from black thread. |

Water jar basket with flat base, high tapering shoulder and short, narrow neck; Woven primarily in diagonal twining with 3-strand twining on base; Rim is coil-wrapped; 2 shoulder handles of 4 loops of 2-ply native cordage are joined by single length of cordage; Designs on basket consists of 3 bands of dyed red willow on natural willow background, all on spring-peeled willow background. |

Description |
Large jar-shaped water bottle with concave base, rounded body, high tapering neck, and tall wide neck with slightly flaring rim; Warp and weft material is sumac or willow shoots; Basket is woven primarily in plain diagonal twining, with several rows of 3-strand twining on base and along shoulder for extra strength; Warp rods are bent over at rim and coil-wrapped; Two carved wooden handles are bent into "U" shapes with outward flaring ends that are secured with coiled stitches to sides of basket just above and below shoulder; Rim is wrapped in black devil's claw; Entire interior and exterior of basket are covered with heavy coating of brown piñon pine pitch; Possible decorative wide line along shoulder is darker than surrounding area, possibly produced by using overheated (burnt) pitch, as underlying weft stitches are not dyed or painted. |
