Description Rectangular textile (identified by collector as girl's dress), woven in two bands that are fastened together down center; Both bands are woven almost entirely in 1/1 plain plaiting except for several rows woven in 3/1 along sides and several zigzag designs woven in 2/1 near each end; small band along one end is also woven in openwork pattern; Fibers along one side and along both ends are shredded an extend as short fringe; Entire textile is dyed deep purple-red except for several paired parallel lines and two bands of stacked chevrons, all of which are resist dyed and are oriented parallel to short axis of textile. (See CAS 1984-0008-0264A for a belt that may have been part of this skirt originally.)

Description Child's dress or dance tunic made from a single piece of tapa cloth that is folded in half along the shoulder and the two halves partially seamed together along the sides and under the short sleeves; Tapa cloth is made from strips of paper mulberry bark that have been beaten into thin sheets and overlapped to form a larger sheet which is undecorated except for large negative inverted and off-centered "U' shape on front of dress; Except for inverted "U' shape motif, entire surface of dress was rubbed to yield an all-over brown color; Semi-circular neck hole and outer edges of both sleeves are edged with strips of commercially printed cotton cloth and small folded triangles of natural colored and dyed red pandanus, all machine sewn to dress with black thread; Neck hole is framed on front and back with several rows of dark brown seed beads and several rows of off-white and darker brown olivella shells, all laid in rows parallel to contour of neck hole; Numerous short strands of additional olivella shells hang pendant from the shells framing the neck hole, with bits of dyed red pandanus attached to the final bead on many of the strands.

Description Large rectangular fragment of kapa, made by beating strips of bark into thin sheets and then overlapping the sheets to form a larger cloth; Extant fragment is a natural off-white or tan color on its back face and pink on the front face; Pink color is possibly derived from bits of red "turkey cloth", a cotton fabric introduced by missionaries which the natives raveled into threads which were then beaten into the kapa to produce this distinctive pink color; No discernible watermark is present; One long edge of fragment is folded over and secured with two parallel rows of hand stitching with plied white thread that extend across entire width of fragment; Fold line and line for hand stitching are marked on reverse in pencil; Hand stitched threads are tied off at one end, indicating an original end of the finished cloth or garment; That same end is also marked by a pencil line, indicating where the larger cloth was to be cut; Opposite short end of fragment is also cut but lacks any pencil park, while second long edge of fragment has been torn.
