Description | Round jar with flat base and spherical body with round, narrow opening at top; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and exterior has been deeply carved to show image of Avanyu or the feathered serpent encircling the mid-section of the jar and an 8-petal flower with the jar’s mouth in the center of the flower atop the jar; The raised portions of the actual designs and the entire base are highly burnished, while the surrounding carved-away areas are covered with a matte black or dark gray slip; Artist’s signature “Ramona Tapia Santa Clara†is shallowly incised in cursive writing on base. | |
