Description Rectangular “Tree of Life” style rug woven entirely in plain weft-faced tapestry technique with non-interlocking joins; Design consists of a central stylized dark green cornstalk growing out of a Navajo wedding basket and extending up the center of the rug; A pair of multi-colored birds are either perched on or flying above each of the cornstalk’s nine paired leaves, with numerous other multi-colored birds and flowers arranged in paired columns on either side of the cornstalk and/or perched on several additional branches that are not actually connected to the cornstalk; Entire scene is woven on a plain white background; Triple border frames rug along sides with the inner border of dark green and turquoise blue having zigzag, serrated edges; Ends of rug are also framed in the same colors, but the green and turquoise blue border is very narrow compared to the black one and all edges are straight; Selvage cords are tan and end cords are light gray.

Description Rectangular Chinle-style rug woven entirely in plain weft faced tapestry technique with non-interlocking joins; Borderless, banded design consists of horizontal bands including a design band of concentric serrated diamonds in dark blue, rose, and white on a light gray background, with the entire band repeated three times, alternating with plainer bands in the same colors; The bands at either end of the rug are plain straight edged bands, while the two plainer bands toward the center of the rug also include the beading technique, accomplished by changing the color of the weft yarn with each pass of the shuttle so that the same color yarn passes over or under only the even or odd numbered warps; Selvage cords and end cords are blue-gray in color. Compare this rug with CAS 2013-0003-0015, another rug by Ella Yazzie and whose design is identical.

Description Rectangular yeibichai style rug woven entirely in plain, weft-faced tapestry technique with non-interlocking joins; Design consists of single file row of 6 male yei dancers, shown in profile, each wearing coral-colored moccasins, red and green garters, short multi-colored skirts with tailing fox skin, and red and green streamers suspended from their upper arms and down their backs; Each dancer also wears a turquoise-colored mask with green neck ruff and two eagle feathers at top, and each carries a gourd rattle in one hand and a pin bough in the other; Standing at the head of the line of dancers is Hastseyalti or Talking God, the principal Navajo deity, dressed in coral-colored moccasins, rust brown pants, red shirt, and white buckskin cape; His head mask is white with a green neck ruff and a crown of black and white eagle feathers, and he carries a brown fox skin in one hand; Behind the line of dancers is Tonenili, who appears during the Yeibichai or Nightway ceremony, partly to direct the dancers but also to provide some comedic relief; He is dressed in coral-colored moccasins, rust brown pants, and gold shirt; His mask is similar to those of the dancers, except his has a crown of eagle feathers instead of just two; He carries a gold fox skin in one hand; Figures are all shown against a plain gray background, flanked above and below by a wide band comprising three rows of narrow interlocking triangles in colors of black, white, and brown; Inner white border and outer black border frame rug on all four edges and are straight-edged along ends and consist of interlocking triangles along sides; Rug lacks selvage cords; End cords are white; Border is interrupted by gray “spirit Line” extending to gray center of rug.

Description Rectangular sandpainting style rug woven entirely in plain, weft-faced tapestry technique with non-interlocking joins; Design consists of sandpainting motif from the Beautyway ceremony, showing the four sacred mountains in the center (in the sacred colors of blue, white, yellow, and black) surrounded by four stylized frogs (also in the four sacred colors) alternating with the four sacred plants, namely corn, tobacco, beans, and squash (in this rendition, beans are actually shown twice in lieu of tobacco); Surrounding the entire sandpainting on three sides is a rainbow guardian yei with a white lower body, an elongated blue and coral-colored midsection, and a brown face; The top of the painting which is not protected by the guardian yei is protected by a pair of smaller frogs (1 yellow and 12 black); Entire sandpainting is woven on a plain tan background, framed on all four edges by a plain gray border; Selvage and end cords are white. This rug was awarded a first prize ribbon at the 1980 New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque, NM.

Description Rectangular sandpainting style rug woven entirely in plain, weft-faced tapestry technique with non-interlocking joins; Design consists of the Feathered Arrow People sandpainting motif, comprising the sacred lake in the center, surrounded by four standing deity figures, each similarly costumed and each with pair of streamers suspended from each outstretched arm and flanked on one side by a bow and on the other by an arrow or a feathered staff (?); Two of the figures are similar in their colors and accessories, while the other two are also more similar to each other in the same respects; Alternating with the deity figures is a multi-branched plant, depicted in similar fashion but in different colors (yellow, white, blue, and black) corresponding to the four sacred colors; A red and blue rainbow streamer with black and white eagle feathers at either end surrounds and protects the painting on three sides; The fourth or open side of the painting is protected by two smaller guardian figures, one in black and one in white; Entire sandpainting is woven on a plain tan background; Selvage and end cords are white. Description Small rectangular Tree of Life style rug, woven entirely in plain weft-faced tapestry technique with interlock joins; Pictorial design consists of a stylized corn plant growing out of a Navajo wedding basket; Perched on each branch of the corn plant and flying in the surrounding space are 16 multi-colored birds, all woven on a white background; that is edged in dark brown around all four edges of the rug; An outer pale blue border also frames the rug on all four edges; Borders’ edges are straight along top and bottom, but zigzagged along sides; Selvage and end cords are white. Description Rectangular rug woven primarily in plain weft-faced tapestry technique, with extensive “raised outline” technique employed along edges of most geometric design elements and motifs; Extremely complex design consists of several diamond shapes in center, and all remaining areas filled with smaller motifs, with the edges on each outlined with a “raised outline,” accomplished by weaving the weft over two warps instead of just one; Entire design field is woven on a background of alternating narrow blue and gray vertical stripes,but within each design motif, the gray vertical stripes are replaced with a different color; Four narrow borders frame the rug along all four edges, with each one also following the dual color scheme of narrow blue stripes alternating with those of a different color; Beginning from the interior, the borders are rose and blue, then dark gray and blue, next is white and blue, and the outermost border is medium gray and blue; Each of the borders are straight-edged along the top and bottom; Along the sides, the three inner borders are zigzags, while the outermost border is a series of paired right triangles; Selvage and end cords are pale blue. This style of rug developed from the Raised Outline style that originated in the Coal Mine Mesa area of the western Navajo Reservation. Later, most of the residents of that area were relocated to tribal lands near Sanders, AZ, and the style became known as the “New Lands” style. It is primarily an adaptation of the Teec Nos Pos style design, woven in pastel colors typical of the Sanders and Burntwater areas.
