Description | Miniature round cooking basket with somewhat flattened base and slightly rounded sides, rising to a very wide mouth; Basket is woven in 3-strand twining technique on base and in diagonal twining on remainder of basket; Warp rods are bent over at rim and coil-wrapped, and additional rod is placed around lip for second row of coil wrapping; Warp material is probably whole, peeled willow shoots and primary weft material is peeled and split willow roots or peeled and split redbud shoots; Designs are woven of split, unpeeled redbud shoots, and consists of a wide band encircling the sides of the basket (band appears wider on exterior than on interior by manipulating which direction the split side of the shoot faces and/or by weaving together one peeled and one unpeeled shoot); Coil wrapping around rim is also done in unpeeled redbud shoots. | |
