Description | Miniature round basket with semi-flattened base, very low shoulder with sides that slope inward as they rise to a very wide but short cylindrical neck; Matching round lid has vertical sides and a domed top; Both basket and lid are woven in 3 strand twining technique on their bases and then the remaining portions are woven in plain twining; Warp material is probably peeled hazel shoots and primary weft material is spruce roots; Secondary weft materials for designs are golden brown bear grass leaves and black maidenhair fern stems; Designs are woven in half-twist overlay technique and consist of bands of alternating light and dark vertical columns around lower and upper sides, with the same dark and light columns turned diagonally in a band around the midsection of the basket; Similar design is repeated on lid. | |
