Description |
Pomo-style baby carrier whose back and sides are fashioned from peeled cane rods laid parallel to each other and bent into traditional U-shape; Rods are held in position by rows of braided cotton string that extend partially or all the way across the baby carrier, starting from the rim; Top of carrier is open and secured with a heavy peeled dogwood (?) hoop that is bent into a circle and secured by one of the rows of braided cotton string; Carrier is undecorated except for band of 4 unpeeled willow shoots that replace the cane rods just below midlevel height on the sides; Two large leather loops are tied to sides of carrier near top and secured to a wide braided cotton string carrying strap; Pair of smaller leather loops are also attached along each side of baby carrier and length of commercial nylon cordage is threaded through them to secure baby inside the carrier. |
