Description | Oval basket with flat bottom and slightly flared sides with an inward curving rim; woven entirely in a open weave using an open coiling technique that creates false knots in the spaces between successive coils; A single vertical loop handle is attached to the rim along the sides of the basket; Basket is devoid of all decoration except for band around mid-section, where warp rods are overlaid on exterior only with a dyed (?) black material and the wefts are woven into a diamond shape; Handle is completely coil-wrapped with undyed pandanus fibers, and three strips of dyed (?) black material are interwoven to produce row of terraced black triangles on upper (outer) surface of handle. | |
