Proximal fragment of breadfruit pounder pecked and ground to shape from single piece of coral; Extant portion of round convex pounding surface flares outward to form a pronounced shoulder, then slopes inward and rises sharply to form a tall, cylindrical handle; At proximal end, the sides of handle again flare outward, forming a flat platform on top that includes four small carved knobs at the cardinal directions; Color is off-white; The pounding surface of this implement is much narrower than most other examples. |
