Description | Large, deep vessel carved out of single piece of dark, hollowed out wood; Slightly bean-shaped, with approximately half of the top open; Bottom of bowl is rounded, without a flattened portion on which to stand; Large link metal chain by which to hang the bowl attached at either end of top opening; Remainder of top portion, and body of bowl, decorated with very thin pieces of white bone inlaid in a floral or leaf motif and Arabic writing, with row of triangles fitted together (downward pointing triangles next to upward pointing); Writing on one side reads “Ya ghafoor. Ya raheem.” (“The forgiver. The merciful.”); Writing on the other side reads “Tawakkaltu Ala-Allah.” (“I trust in Allah.”); Possibly used as an incense holder. | |
