Description | Round basket with wide flat base and rounded sides that curve inward toward rim; Woven in coiling technique on 3-rod foundation; Designs include 4 small crosses on base, very wide zigzag band with slender serrated edges encircling side of basket and extending from base to rim (lightning pattern), and alternating dark and light segments around rim; Black quail topknot feathers are randomly placed around upper sides of basket and around rim. [In 1977 Pomo basketweaver Mable McKay identified this design as the ?Lighting? design. She also attributed this basket to the Long Valley area.] | |
