Description |
Small round basket with wide flat base and rounded sides that curve inward toward rim; Woven in coiling technique over 3-rod foundation; Designs include radiating sun burst pattern on base, 9 quail topknot feather motifs arranged in 2 rows around sides, and series of alternating dark and light segments around rim; Shell disk bead is tied to rim atop each dark segment in the final coil and entire side of basket is decorated with red acorn woodpecker feather placed approx. every 0.5 cm. [In 1977 Pomo basketweaver Mable McKay attributed this basket to the Ukiah area.] |
