Description | Flat round plaque with braided rim; Warp material is whole peeled hazel shoots and primary weft material is conifer roots; Center of plaque is woven in plain twining; Designs are woven in half-twist overlay technique and include narrow circle woven in black maidenhair fern stems, encircled by band of brown triangles (woodwardia fern) on background of white bear grass; Final rows of twining beyond design area are done over groups of 3 warps which radiate outward and are then bent to the right and are interwoven in an open wickerwork technique to form a decorative, scalloped border. | |
