Description | Small round wheel-thrown jar with rounded base, pronounced juncture between base and lower sides, midlevel height shoulder, short but wide and constricted neck with wide mouth and everted rim; Single loop handle is attached vertically at rim and at shoulder, with both ends of the handle flared; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and probably coated with a buff-colored slip, then painted in dark brown; Designs consist of paired lines encircling the jar just below the shoulder and just below the rim; Heavier band with tick marks along upper edge also encircles jar just above shoulder, and very heavy line encircles interior lip. | |
