Tall round jar with short footed base and sides that flare out from the base, then abruptly rise almost vertically to a high shoulder before turning inward to form a wide, almost flat shoulder, and then rise nearly vertically again to form a round, narrow neck with straight rim and rounded lip; Single flattened handle is attached to upper side of neck, extending out and slightly upward at first before dropping vertically to the second point of attachment on the shoulder; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth; Design field is divided into several banded zones; Primary band around upper body of jar is subdivided into approx. 6 vertical panels (that contain paired half-circles), alternating with narrower panels that are decorated with a script-like design; Narrow bands above and below the primary band are decorated with repetitive geometric motifs; The shoulder area is decorated with a band of leaf-like motifs; Several bands encircle the neck, although most of the painting is based on only a few original fragments. |
