| Description | Conical burden basket with flaring sides; Woven primarily in 2-strand twining with several rows of diagonal twining near base; First few rows of twining are done in leather strips; Rim reinforcing rod is coil-wrapped with peeled willow; Designs in full-twist overlay include 2 parallel zigzag bands (each comprising paired bands of diagonally stacked triangles) and 3 motifs of stacked triangles. (According to Ralph Shanks the double overlay of bear grass in this basket is typical of Maidu baskets; January 2002). | |
