| Description | Conical acorn hopper basket with the base removed, woven primarily in plain twining with 3-strand twining on lower sides and lattice twining upper sides; Warp rods are braided at rim; Design is done in bear grass in half-twist overlay and includes units of negative, diagonally stacked triangles and rectangles (repeated 6 times) on upper sides, framed above and below by paired lattice twined rods; This type of basket is placed atop a mortar stone when grinding acorn meal in order to catch the bits of acorn and acorn meal that are discharged with each downward movement of the pestle. | |
