American Dogwood
Cornus sericea ssp. sericea
(Cornaceae)

This species has reddish to purple young branches that become gray-green with age. It is typically a small shrub to about 2m tall with showy clusters of delicate white flowers. Large ribbed leaves form a cluster below the flowering head, and are often lighter in color on the underside.

DISTRIBUTION: American Dogwood is found in many moist habitats below 850m, widespread, but not common, especially uncommon in southern California.
