Brachysira Kutzing

Description

Frustules biraphid, linear to linear-lanceolate with rounded to protracted apices, symmetrical to the apical and transapical axes, although some specimens have a slight to strong asymmetry about the transapical axis. Striae finely punctate, with the appearance of longitudinal undulations. Raphe straight, axial area narrow. Cells growing singly, unattached or growing at the ends of narrow mucilaginous stalks.
