Fallacia Stickle and Mann

Description

Biraphid valves that are linear lanceolate to elliptical with bluntly rounded poles. Striae are interrupted by lateral hyaline area (sterna). H-shaped plastid consisting of 2 plates that lie against the girdle. The two plates of the plastid are connected by a narrow isthmus that lies against the epivalve. This hyaline area appears as a lyre and bears a strong resemblance to the genus Lyrella. The two vary in valve ultra structure and plastid structure and arrangement. Contains taxa formerly included in Navicula pygmaea. Found in marine and freshwater epipelic habitats.
