Type by monotypy. Barker & Meakin (1948, p. 234-235) make the following comments: " We are indebted to Mr A.L. Brigger.... for the specimens shown in fig. 5,6. In 1945 Mr Brigger sent the valve shown in Fig. 5. Previously he has sent a similar valve to Mr Dingley P. Fuge, which has been described as Triceratium swastika by Long et al. (1946) (ref. 000616)...The published specific name swastika has not been retained, partly because it is not strictly correct for a three-armed form, but mainly because we wish to give the belated recognition due to Mr Brigger who supplied the first known specimens of this interesting diatom." This is however not a valid reason for not retaining the epithet "swastika". |
