Comments | Later homonym of Cotyledon Linnaeus 1753. Substitute name: Gutswinkiella De Toni 1894. Three species are described in Brun 1891: Cotyledon circularis Brun, Cotyledon clypeolus Brun, Cotyledon (Cyclotella ?) coronalis Brun, no type is designated. Three species are included in De Toni 1894 (Gutswinkiella circularis, G. clypeolus, G.? coronalis) and G. clypeolus is designated as the type. Round, Crawford & Mann (1990) p. 687 incorrectly indicate that Van Heurck 1896 (ref. 000897), p. 519, designated Cotyledon circularis Brun 1891 as the lectotype. Van Heurck 1896 discusses genera Cotyledon Brun and Acanthodiscus Pantocsek, he includes in genus Acanthodiscus A. clypeolus (Brun) and A. rugosus Pantocsek and places C. coronalis Brun (and perhaps C. circularis) into a new genus Bruniella Van Heurck. |

Comments | Following the generic description, Brun describes and illustrates a new species, Hydrosilicon mitra. He also states (in French): "Two species belong to this genus. These are the species cited above (H. mitra) and the species of O'Meara (Amphiprora rimosa. Seychelle Islands M.J. 3.1) which cannot belong to the genus Amphiprora". Brun does not explicitly indicate which species is the type. |

Comments | Type by monotypy .After his description of the genus Radiopalma, Brun describes a new species Radiopalma dichotoma. In smaller font on p. 42, Brun indicates that Radiopalma dichotoma and other taxa (Stictodiscus crozierii Kitton, St. kittonoanus Greville, St. morianus and figures 74/24,25 in Schmidt's Atlas) form a natural group that should not belong to Stictodiscus. Radiopalma dichotoma Brun 1891 is the only species described, illustrated and actually referred to as Radiopalma, in Brun's 1891 paper. Brun's statement is a little ambiguous, on the one hand he indicates that Radiopalma dichotoma and a list of several Stictodiscus species form a natural group, but he does not actually state that this group constitutes a single genus. Considering the ambiguity as to whether the Stictodiscus species are included, it seems fair to consider the genus monotypic and Radioplama dichotoma Brun the holotype. Farr et al. 1979, p. 1480, give R. dichotoma as the type. |
