Comments | Type by monotypy.First account of this name in Grove & Sturt 1886 (ref. 000426) as "Pseudo-rutilaria. Nov. subgenus", however the name was invalid because "there was no positive indication of the genus to which it was to be attributed" (see Ross & Sims 1987, p. 276, ref. 003151). According to Ross & Sims 1987 (ref. 003151), the subgeneric name Rutilaria subgenus Pseudorutilaria was validly published by De Toni & Levi 1887 (ref. 006842), as also was the specific name Rutilaria monile. Later, De Toni 1894 (ref. 000951) (p. 854) treated Pseudorutilaria as a genus, ascribing the name to Grove & Sturt, and validly published the combination Pseudorutilaria monile. |

Comments | The name was published by F. Schütt in Engler & Prantl 1896 (ref. 001512), p. 83 for a section of Lauderia, with a single species, Lauderia pumilla Castracane 1886. Entry in Round, Crawford & Mann (1990), p. 142 ("Detonula Schütt 1894, Rep. Sci. Voy. 'Challenger', Bot. 2: 89, 1880. T: D. pumila (Castracane) Schütt (= Lauderia pumila)"), is incorrect; it refers probably to Castracane 1886 (ref. 000193), where the genus Lauderia is discussed p. 89 without mention of the name Detonula.. The genus name was validly published by De Toni 1894, p. 1425, who provided a generic description. No species were listed by De Toni for this genus. |

Comments | Name cited "Henseniella Schütt 1893" by Tempère 1894, p. 79 (ref. 001540), name not found in Schütt 1893 (ref. 001510). Name later appeared in Schütt in Engler & Prantl 1896 (ref. 001512), p. 84, as a section of Guinardia, with a single species, Guinardia baltica (Hensen) Schütt. Described in De Toni as Henseniella Schütt (with no reference to a previous paper). Two species are included, Henseniella baltica (Hens.) Schütt which is also described, Henseniella Stephanos (Hens.) Schütt l.c., for which no description is provided. No type designated. |

Comments | Five species are listed in De Toni and no type is unequivocally designated; however, for Schuettia annulata, the first species listed, instead of giving a description, De Toni writes "characteres generis", referring to the genus description p. 1395-1396. Van Heurck 1896 (ref. 000897), p. 496 writes that Actinoptychus annulatus (Wall.) Grun. is the "type-form of this new genus". Van Heurck also states: "If a new genus is to be constitued for triangular forms, the name given by Dr. De Toni is untenable, but it should be called Cymatogonia, which was proposed by Mr. Grunow in 1883". |

Comments | Later homonym of Brunia Linnaeus 1753, and Brunia Lamarck 1785 (nom. cons.). Synonym (substitute name): Neobrunia O. Kuntze, 1894 (ref. 002494). Tempère in Brun et al. 1890 (ref. 000883) p. 21 first introduced the genus name Brunia, 2 species were included, Brunia japonica n. gen. n. sp. with a long description in French and an illustration, and Brunia mirabilis with a short diagnosis. The genus was not validly published then because it is was lacking a generic description while including more than one species (see ICBN-1994, Art. 41-42). The genus became validly published in De Toni (1894) (ref. 000951), where a generic description was provided; no type was designated by De Toni. |
