Name rejected vs. Nitzschia Hassall 1845, nom. cons. (nomenclatural synonym) (see ICBN 1956, p. 201, ref. 006916). Originally monotypic. ICBN 1994, p. 121, gives "Sigmatella Kütz., Alg. Aq. Dulc. Germ.: No. 2. Jan-Feb 1820". This name was later used by Kützing 1834, p. 26 (ref. 000594) for a subgenus of Frustulia typified with Frustulia nitzschii (= Sigmatella nitzschii Küt. = Bacillaria sigmoidea Nitzsch). |
