Centroclisis distincta (Rambur, 1842)
DIAGNOSIS |
TYPE DEPOSITORY |
TYPE LOCALITY Senegal, designated by Prost (1998). |
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION This species is found throughout Africa from Ethiopia to Nigeria to South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Within Madagascar it appears to have a bipolar distribution in the north and south of the island, although this could be an artifact of insufficient collection data. |
TEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION From December to March. |
ELEVATION 30 to 650 m. |
REMARKS There are five species recorded from Madagascar, but most have been described on the basis of minor differences and I suspect are based more on geographical location than morphological distinctness. There is variation in the number of veins between CuP and 1A of the forewing from 2 to 6, but no other character can be found to correlate with this variation. |
