DIAGNOSIS
This is the largest species of Madagascar Myrmeleon with a forewing length of up to 50 mm. There are four pale spots laterally on the pronotum and the wing membrane is often tinted dark, giving the wings a "smoky" appearance. There is a large pale pterostigmal spot.

Syntypes: Madagascar, Huhublot 1883; and Madagascar, Tamative (now Toamasina).
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION
This species is widely dispersed in forested areas around the island.
TEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION
October to April.

35 to 1000 m.
