Diagnosis
I have only seen two species of Aleuropteryginae from Madagascar, both in the genus Heteroconis (identified by elongate first antennomere).
Heteroconis nebulosa has dark shading of the wing membrane beside each crossvein, while Heteroconis sp. A does not.
Type Depository
The original description indicates that the type was to be placed in the Institut de Recherche scientificque, Madagascar. Meinander (1972) indicated that the collector, Rene Paulian, had indicated to him that the type was deposited in MNHN, Paris at that time (1972). However, the type could not be located in either collection (2006).
Type Locality
REUNION Island: Rempart de Bélouve, January 1955, R. Paulian, 1 female.
Geographical Distribution
Originally described from REUNION, it has recently been collected in three forested localities in the eastern and northern parts of MADAGASCAR.
Temporal Distribution
all months except August, September, and October.
Elevation
690 to 1110 m.
Remarks
This species was originally described in Spiloconis, but later transferred to Helicoconis by Ohm & Hölzel (1997) on the basis of the male genital armature.
This species appears to be fairly common at Ranomafana National Park, but is quite uncommon in other parts of the country.
