NANNOCHORISTIDAE

Nannochoristids are unusual mecopterans in that they have an elateriform, aquatic larva. Adults are small creatures, with short mouthparts uncharacteristic of the order. Their forewing venation is very similar to that of dipterans, and they may be closely related. The geographical distribution is clearly Gondwanian, with one genus found in New Zealand, and the other genus found in southern Chile and southern Australia.
