Howella Ogilby [J. D.] 1899:734 Fem. Howella brodiei Ogilby 1899. Type by monotypy. Family placement uncertain; sometimes placed in the Percichthyidae, or incertae sedis in Percoidei as by Johnson 1984:465 [ref. 9681] or in Howellidae or in Acropomatidae.
