Antarctic research expedition 1929-1931 v. 1 (pt 2); ref. 15294] 63°21'S, 54°16'E, Antarctic Glacial District, 2000 meters of wire out. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1937.9.21.96. Muraenolepis is feminine, so microcephala is correct. •Valid as Muraenolepis microcephalus Norman 1937 -- (Chiu & Markle 1990:180 [ref. 21686], Cohen in Cohen et al. 1990:382 [ref. 18936], Miller 1993:550 [ref. 21297], Balushkin & Prirodina 2005:445 [ref. 28364]). •Valid as Muraenolepis microcephala Norman 1937 -- (Balushkin & Prirodina 2006:725 [ref. 28871], Prirodina & Balushkin 2007:210 [ref. 29054], Balushkin & Prirodina 2007:683 [ref. 29393]). •Valid as Notomuraenobathys microcephalus (Norman 1937) -- (Balushkin & Prirodina 2010:227 [ref. 30794], Balushkin & Prirodina 2013:155 [ref. 32658], Prirodina & Balushkin 2015:652 [780] [ref. 36754], Konstantinidis et al. 2016:1494 [ref. 35297]). Current status: Valid as Notomuraenobathys microcephalus (Norman 1937). Muraenolepididae. Distribution: Southern Ocean, southwestern Atlantic: Patagonia (Argentina) and Falkland Islands. Habitat: marine.
