Syntypes: (orig. 25 + 8 + 62) MNHN 2005-1763 [ex 1954-0009] (now 2) Faranah, 1960-0398 (now 11) Faranah, 1960-0399 (now 6) Bissikrima. Specimens at IFAN apparently lost. Type catalog: Blanc 1961:262 [ref. 20870]. Lectotype selected by Mortiz et al. 2006:68 [ref. 28636]. •Synonym of Cromeria nilotica Boulenger 1901, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Lévêque in Lévêque et al. 1990:188 [ref. 21589], Poll & Gosse 1995:87 [ref. 24781]). •Valid as Cromeria occidentalis Daget 1954 -- (Poll 1984:134 [ref. 6180], Mortiz et al. 2006:68 [ref. 28636], Moritz et al. 2006:173 [ref. 28768], Britz & Moritz 2007:4 [ref. 29248]). Current status: Valid as Cromeria occidentalis Daget 1954. Kneriidae. Distribution: Widespread in western Africa: Niger and Volta basins. Habitat: freshwater.
