Lectotype selected by Fricke 1999:436 [ref. 24106] as the specimen figured in Bennett's Pl. 12. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes (La RĂ©union, Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Wake Atoll and Tuamotu Archipelago (French Polynesia), north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands (Japan), south to Rottnest Island (Western Australia), Sydney (New South Wales, Australia), Lord Howe Island (Australia), New Caledonia, Tonga and Austral Islands (French Polynesia). Habitat: marine.
