Holotype (unique): BMNH 1861.4.12.41. •See Fricke 1999:568 [ref. 24106]. •Valid as Trichogaster microlepis (Günther 1861) -- (Vierke 1986:116 [ref. 36452], Vierke 1988:161 [ref. 36453] as microlepsis, Rainboth 1996:216 [ref. 22772], Wakiyama et al. 1997:100 [ref. 25519], Kottelat 2001:160 [ref. 25780], Zhang et al. 2016:213 [ref. 34477]). •Valid as Trichopodus microlepis (Günther 1861) -- (Töpfer & Schindler 2009:49 [ref. 30199], Paepke 2009:54 [ref. 30200], Low & Lim 2012:89 [ref. 32302], Kottelat 2013:457 [ref. 32989], Low et al. 2014:73 [ref. 33509], Taki et al. 2021:406 [ref. 39830]). Current status: Valid as Trichopodus microlepis (Günther 1861). Osphronemidae: Trichogastrinae. Distribution: Southeast Asia: Chao Phraya and Mekong River basins, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam; introduced elsewhere. Habitat: freshwater.
