carangua, Caranx Lacepède [B. G. E.] (ex Plumier) 1801:59, 74 [Histoire naturelle des poissons (Lacepède) v. 3; ref. 2710] Martinique, West Indies, western Atlantic. No types preserved. Based on the 'Carangue' on a drawing in the manuscript by Plumier (Charles Plumier, 1646-1704, French explorer and botanist). Also appeared in Sonnini 1803:399 (vol. 7), 5 (vol. 8) [ref. 30473]. •Synonym of Caranx hippos (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Daget & Smith-Vaniz 1986:311 [ref. 6207], Smith-Vaniz et al. 1990:732 [ref. 18644], Smith-Vaniz & Carpenter 2007:219 [ref. 29160]). Current status: Synonym of Caranx hippos (Linnaeus 1766). Carangidae: Caranginae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
