Paralectotypes: MNHN A-763 (1, dry), B-3052 (1, dry). Type catalog: Bauchot 1963:168-169 [ref. 20718], Bauchot & Daget 1996:243 [ref. 22899] with syntypes; lectotype apparently established by Pellegrin 1914:233 [ref. 14168] but with wrong locality. •Valid as Coracinus capensis (Cuvier 1831) -- (Smith 1986:602 [ref. 5712], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:165 [ref. 25472]). •Valid as Dichistius capensis (Cuvier 1831) -- (Leis & van der Lingen 1997:100 [ref. 23161], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:248 [ref. 28072], Knudsen & Clements 2013:77 [ref. 33031], Russell & van Oijen 2021:429 [ref. 38177], Heemstra 2022:340 [ref. 39773]). Current status: Valid as Dichistius capensis (Cuvier 1831). Dichistiidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic to southwestern Indian Ocean: southern Angola south to Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), then north to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
