Paralectotypes: USNM (1, apparently lost). Type information: Whitehead 1970:213 [ref. 11606]. Lectotype selected by Trewavas 1977:345 [ref. 4459]. Combined with a feminine genus the adjective should be aurea. •Valid as Chrysochir aurea (Richardson 1846) (often seen as aureus) -- (Trewavas 1977:345 [ref. 4459], Talwar 1995:54 [ref. 25194], Mohsin & Ambak 1996:365 [ref. 27969], Sasaki 1996:88 [ref. 22156], Sasaki in Randall & Lim 2000:621 [ref. 25122], Sasaki 2001:3137 [ref. 26108], Khan 2003:9 [ref. 27710], Kottelat 2013:357 [ref. 32989], Arshad in Kimura et al. 2018:181 [ref. 36460], Habib & Islam 2020:Supplementary table p. 26 [ref. 38321] as aureus, Parenti 2020:11 [ref. 37439] as aureus, Psomadakis et al. 2020:488 [ref. 37272], Taki et al. 2021:378 [ref. 39830] as aureus). Current status: Valid as Chrysochir aurea (Richardson 1846). Sciaenidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: east coast of India, Bangladesh and Myanmar east to Indonesia, north to northern Vietnam. Habitat: marine.
