plumieri, Gobius Bloch [M. E.] (ex Plumier) 1786:154, Pl. 178 (fig. 3) [Naturgeschichte der ausländischen Fische v. 2; ref. 465] Rio Seibo, 15 kilometers northwest of El Seibo, 50 kilometers northeast of San Pedro de Macoris, 18°53'N, 69°07'W, Dominican Republic. Neotype: SMNS 11331. Type catalog: Fricke 2005:40 [ref. 29864.] Based on 'Gobius maxillà superiore prominente ...' in manuscript description by Plumier (Charles Plumier, 1646-1704, French explorer and naturalist). Spelled plümieri originally; and would be emended to pluemieri on ICZN Art. 32.5.2.1; derivation not given but presumed to be on the person Plumier (not a German name but the German spelling of a French name). The spelling plumieri is an incorrect subsequent spelling in prevailing usage and should be maintained. Spelled plumierii in Bloch & Schneider 1801:69 [ref. 471], plumier in Lacepède 1800:537, 562, Pl. 15 (fig. 2) [ref. 2709] and Sonnini 1803:194, 234 (vol. 7) [ref. 30473]. On p. 125 of Bloch's Ichthyologie, v. 5 [ref. 21381]. Neotype designated by Watson 2000:14 [ref. 24994]. •Valid as Sicydium plumieri (Bloch 1786) -- (Herrera 1896:62 [ref. 39336], Bussing 1996:824 [ref. 22890], Watson 2000:14 [ref. 24994], Lim et al. 2002:102 [ref. 28310], Murdy & Hoese 2003:1795 [ref. 27111], Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:662 [ref. 27061], Matamoros et al. 2009:25 [ref. 31241], Van Tassell 2011:145 [ref. 31732], de Lucena et al.2013:142 [ref. 32517], Phillip et al. 2013:25 [ref. 32896], Smith-Vaniz & Jelks 2014:80 [ref. 33341], Rodríguez-Barrera et al. 2020:45 [ref. 37800]). Current status: Valid as Sicydium plumieri (Bloch 1786). Gobiidae: Sicydiinae. Distribution: Caribbean islands: Puerto Rico, Barbados, Cuba, Jamaica, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Saint Vincent; Central America: Honduras, Panama. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
