Paralectotypes: BMNH 1853.2.14.15 (1), 1961.10.20.2-7 [ex 1855.9.19.1487-1489] (6), 1855.9.19.1487 (1). Lectotype selected by Hardy 1987:263 [ref. 5960]. Original genus should have been Tripterygion. •Valid as Bellapiscis medius (Günther 1861) -- (Hardy 1987:260 [ref. 5960], Paulin et al. 1989:220 [ref. 24556], Paulin & Roberts 1992:88 [ref. 24625], Fricke 1994:132 [ref. 21827], Fricke 1997:562 [ref. 23339], Fricke 2009:52 [ref. 30394], Patzner et al. 2009:444 [ref. 30396], Feary et al. 2009:1704 [ref. 30938], Stewart & Clements 2015:1499 [ref. 34299]). Current status: Valid as Bellapiscis medius (Günther 1861). Tripterygiidae: Tripterygiinae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: New Zealand region. Habitat: marine.
