Holotype: USNM 201582. Paratypes: USNM 201443-50 (1, 2, 2, 4, 11 or 12, 2, 1, 6). •Synonym of Nicholsina usta (Valenciennes 1840), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Randall 1990:883 [ref. 19149], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:399 [ref. 24550]). •Synonym of Nicholsina usta (Valenciennes 1840) -- (Parenti & Randall 2000:54 [ref. 24943]). •Valid as Nicholsina collettei Schultz 1968 -- (Robertson et al. 2006:805 [ref. 31512], Wirtz et al. 2007:15, 37 [ref. 30263], Parenti & Randall 2011:38 [ref. 31299], Rocha et al. 2012:61 [ref. 31733], Westneat in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2736 [ref. 34618], Reiner 2019:239 [ref. 38139], Fermon et al. 2022:290 [ref. 39448]). Current status: Valid as Nicholsina collettei Schultz 1968. Labridae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Senegal south to Gabon, including Annobón Island (Equatorial Guinea), and São Tomé and Principe. Habitat: marine.
