Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 351. Paratypes: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 743 (1). •Valid as Apogon flagelliferus (Smith 1961) -- (Gon 1986:550 [ref. 5657], Manilo 1992:23 [132] [ref. 39140], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S106 [ref. 27377]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus flagelliferus Smith 1961 -- (Mabuchi et al. 2014:200 [ref. 33426], Fricke et al. 2018:172 [ref. 35805], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:126 [ref. 36965], Fraser et al. 2022:198 [ref. 39752], Moazzam & Osmany 2023:60 [ref. 40689]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus flagelliferus Smith 1961. Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and Mozambique east to Madagascar. Habitat: marine.
