Paratypes: (5) SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 739 (2), 740 (1). Goren 1980 [1979] is a misidentified Callogobius pilosimentum according to Delventhal et al. 2016:227 [ref. 34863]. •Valid as Drombus irrasus Smith 1959 -- (Goren 1979:36 [ref. 1852]). •Synonym of Callogobius maculipinnis (Fowler 1918) -- (McKinney & Lachner 1984:627 [ref. 21192], Hoese 1986:785 [ref. 5670], Goren et al. 1991:299 [ref. 19765], Fricke & Kulbicki 2006:349 [ref. 28867], Delventhal & Mooi 2013:156 [ref. 32677], Larson 2022:63 [ref. 39971]). •Valid as Callogobius irrasus (Smith 1959) -- (Goren 1980:213 [ref. 8716], Dor 1984:241 [ref. 29757], Delventhal et al. 2016:231 [ref. 34863], Fricke et al. 2018:328 [ref. 35805], Parenti 2021:113 [ref. 38603], Delventhal & Mooi 2023:461 [ref. 40434]). Current status: Valid as Callogobius irrasus (Smith 1959). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Red Sea; western Indian Ocean: East Africa to Madagascar. Habitat: marine.
