Current status: Valid as Engraulis capensis Gilchrist 1913. Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, Western Indian Ocean: Namibia south to Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), then north to Somalia, east to Madagascar and Mascarenes (La RĂ©union, Mauritius, Rodrigues). Habitat: marine.
