Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. •Valid as Raja caudaspinosa von Bonde & Swart 1923 -- (Hulley 1986:120 [ref. 5672], Compagno et al. 1991:103 [ref. 21083], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:92 [ref. 25472], Stehmann 1995:109 [ref. 22055]). •Valid as Rajella caudaspinosa (von Bonde & Swart 1923) -- (McEachran & Dunn 1998:286 [ref. 23312], Long & McCosker 1999:49 [ref. 23764], Compagno 1999:492 [ref. 25589], Compagno & Ebert 2007:135 [ref. 30471], Last & Stehmann 2008:135 [ref. 29652], Weigmann et al. 2014:384 [ref. 33443], Weigmann 2016:122 [ref. 34211], Last et al. 2016:19 [ref. 34941], Last et al. 2016:337 [ref. 35000], Almeida & Biscoito 2019:152 [ref. 37302], Ebert et al. 2021:85 [ref. 38234]). Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Namibia south to Cape of Good Hope, then north to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
