guentheri, Chalcinus Garman [S.] 1890:4 [Bulletin of the Essex Institute v. 22 (nos 1-3); ref. 17893] Essequibo River; Rio São Francisco, below falls, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Holotype: MCZ 21173. Non-types: BMNH (2 + 1). Originally as C. güntheri. Based on Chalcinus brachypomus of Günther 1864:341 [ref. 1974]; Garman mentions a typical specimen from R. San Francisco, but that does not technically establish it as the holotype, but it apparently was the only specimen he saved. •Valid as Triportheus guentheri (Garman 1890) -- (Malabarba 1998:76 [ref. 23840], Malabarba & Lima in Reis et al. 2003:158 [ref. 27061], Malabarba 2004:188 [ref. 28150], Mariguela et al. 2016:132 [ref. 34141], Silva et al. 2020:9 [ref. 37809], Malabarba 2024:436 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Triportheus guentheri (Garman 1890). Triportheidae: Triportheinae. Distribution: South America: São Francisco River basin (Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
