Holotype (unique): AMS B.5776 [ex TMH [Hobart Mus.]]. Also appeared in Johnston 1883:142 [ref. 18337]. Named for A. Günther of the BMNH (named after "the author of the Fishes of the British Museum"), so the name should be spelled guentheri. •Synonym of Lophotus capellei Temminck & Schlegel 1845 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:398 [ref. 12442]). •Apparently valid as Lophotus guentheri Johnston 1883 -- (Craig et al. 2004:63 [ref. 28412]). •Valid as Lophotus guentheri Johnston 1883 -- (Roberts 2012:55 [ref. 32187] as guntheri, Sutton et al. 2020:224 [ref. 37832]).
